Observation

My first observation of the story, "Touching Spirit Bear" by Ben Mikaelsen, is when Cole is mauled by the spirit bear and is crushed and laying on the ground and looking around and sees baby sparrows in a tree. The next morning after a severe thunderstorm Cole finds the baby sparrow's tree knocked over, and all of the baby sparrows dead. He thought that the baby sparrows should have been alive and him dead. That showed me that he could change, and had begun to start changing.
My second observation of the book is Cole's about parents. They should have been more active in his life. Instead of  being in his life and giving him support, they drank beer and got drunk and neglected Cole physically and emotionally. This was a very bad example for Cole; like they say the "apple doesn't fall to far from the tree". What I learned from this was that problems at home probably ignited Cole's anger and violence.
My last observation of the book, "Touching Spirit Bear", is when Cole is laying on the ground after being mauled, he is disabled and unable to move therefore, he can't get up and walk  back to camp when he is hungry. So in order to keep himself alive he eats a variety of nasty things like grass, live bugs, rain water and, even a live mouse! From this I think Cole learned to be grateful for his food and what I learned from this is to not take for granted the simple things you have.
